More about Godalming Club
- Godalming Chess Club is a friendly and sociable club and welcomes player’s of all abilities, and caters for both social and competitive chess. The club celebrates its 60th anniversary during the current season.
- The club has 19 adult members and 5 junior members.
- Adult member’s grades range from 40 to 158.
- Besides entering 5 teams in the Surrey Border League the club also runs a number of internal events. There are two main internal tournaments, the Clarke Cup, which is the Club Championship and is open to all members, and the Elaine Pritchard Trophy, which is open to players graded under 100. Both competitions run throughout the season.
- Two rapid play tournaments are run during the season. The Stace Cup, which is held at Christmas along with a social evening and the Dr O’ Barnard Cup a handicap Rapid Play tournament, which is held at the end of the season.
- The club also runs an Open Tournament at Aldro School, Shackleford at the beginning of the season.
- The club is keen to encourage juniors and to build links with local schools. The junior players have their own internal championship. The team, which the club enters into Division 7 (Under 50 Grade) of the Border League, is also made up of junior players. - The club meets every Thursday at Broadwater Park Community Centre, Summers Lane, Farncombe. Godalming. The 2008/09 season runs from Thursday 4th September to Thursday 28th May.
- Membership fees are £30 Adults and £15 Junior’s. The fees cover all Border League fees, competition entry fees, grading fees and refreshments. There are no additional charges above the £30.
